Imagine moving to a foreign country with your family and not knowing how to cook. What's a mother to do? Patchmon Su-Anchalee's answer: learn to find her way around the kitchen, of course.
The entrepreneur arrived in Canada from Thailand along with her husband, Romyen Tangsubutra, and her daughter, Aleen, in 2003. Homesick, Patchmon decided to learn how to make Thai desserts to reconnect with her birthplace. "My dad has a sweet tooth," says Aleen. "He started to give my mom homework!"
Patchmon started sharing her new hobby with friends and family at Thai community gatherings and other cultural celebrations in Toronto's Thai community. Everyone encouraged her to start a business. The rest, as they say, is history.
Opened in April 2015, Patchmon's Thai Desserts is a family-run business in Bloor West Village, offering a variety of savoury and sweet snacks and after-dinner treats.
